Thread Painting Workshop (C)

Thread painting is the process of applying thread to an image on fabric to enhance the image, either by machine or by hand. This is done before layering the piece with batting and backing.

This 6 hour thread painting workshop is designed for quilters and other textile artists who are interested in creating exquisite texture and detail in their work through machine stitching. Students should already have experience with free motion stitching.

Anne will walk students through the process of choosing an image, stabilizing the fabric, and selecting threads, needles, and presser feet.

You will work with pre-printed fabric panels, either one that Anne provides (see photo below) or one of the student’s choosing. The fabric panels Anne provides are of large colorful flowers, enabling us to use thread to shade and enhance each petal and leaf. The possibilities are infinite, and we will try out many of them. Students will have access to Anne's extensive thread collection, so that you may experiment with different kinds of threads and determine what works best in your machine.  There will be a nominal kit fee payable to Anne.

This workshop will focus on machine stitching, and how to take your free motion stitching to the next level. The needle is your brush, the thread is your paint.  Click here for the Machine Thread Painting Supply List.
